About the workshop
Write, Play, Perform: Emerging Artists is a small-group music workshop designed for teens and young adults who want space to write, explore, and perform original music in a supportive, creative environment.
Â
Students will develop songs individually and collaboratively, experiment with arrangement and accompaniment, and build confidence sharing their work with others. The focus is on artistic growth, creative voice, and how to connect with the listener.
Â
No pressure. No competition. Just a welcoming space to make meaningful music together!
Who this workshop is for
This workshop is ideal for:
- Teens and young adults interested in songwriting or composing
- Musicians who want to grow creatively outside of private lessons
- Students who enjoy collaboration and learning from peers
- Anyone looking to build confidence performing original work
Some prior music experience is helpful, but not a requirement to participate. Curiosity and openness are what matter most.
What we'll explore
Over the 6-week series, students may:
- Write and refine original songs
- Explore melody, harmony, lyrics, and structure
- Arrange music for solo or group performance
- Experiment with accompaniment and instrumentation
- Develop performance confidence in a supportive setting
The series will wrap up with a relaxed open-stage performance for friends and family.

FAQ
Do I need to be a “serious” musician to join?
Not at all. This group is for teens and young adults who enjoy creating music and want a supportive space to explore songwriting, performance, and artistic voice — at any level.
Can I bring my own songs or works-in-progress?
Yes, absolutely. Students are encouraged to bring ideas, lyrics, melodies, or fully formed songs to workshop and develop.
What are the class sizes?
Group sizes are kept small — typically 6 to 8 students — so everyone gets support and plenty of time to participate.
Is this more collaborative or individual-focused?
Both. There will be time for individual songwriting as well as group collaboration, depending on the interests and comfort levels of the participants.
Is there a performance at the end?
Yes! We’ll finish the 6-week series with a relaxed open-stage sharing for friends and family. Students can perform solo, in small groups, or with the full ensemble — whatever feels right.
Where should we park, and which entrance do we use?
Parking is available behind Laurier Baptist Church, and the main entrance is also located at the back of the building. Please use this entrance for drop-off and pick-up. It’s well-marked and easy to access from the parking area.
