Songwriters in the Round Vol. 2

An evening of living, longing and laughter
Three unique songwriters with complementary but distinctive perspectives and styles. Carrie Day has an ethereal emotional untangling approach to songwriting with a floating sense of wonder while singing from experience. Lori Reid sings from a place of reaching for more from life with memorable melodic choruses and Ben Sures tells stories with bittersweet humour and pathos. All musically unique these three will accompany each other’s songs in a special night of music at the perfect venue for an evening of great sound and intimate listening.
Carrie Day is an Edmonton–based folk/roots singer-songwriter and musician. Known for her breathy vocals, poetic lyrics, and expressive arrangements, her work channels raw emotion straight to the listener’s heart. Her songs are rooted in a deep calling to create beauty and make sense of the world, inviting listeners to reflect on life and what it means to be human.
Music is to be felt, not only heard. Beginning with her recording debut RADIO, Lori Reid quickly transitioned to ⅓ founding member of Alberta trio the fates (Jenny Allen, Lin Elder). Currently nurturing a multi-album recording relationship with Colin Linden that has included the fates 2008’s Therapy and 2012’s solo Temperance Hotel and most recently with the brute force of The Rotting Matadors (Colin Linden, John Dymond, Gary Craig) as the four continue recording and releasing the grass routes project, The elements.
Winnipeg bred, Edmonton based Ben Sures has performed at festivals and concerts across Canada. He’s a songwriter who sees the little things we take for granted and reminds us how those everyday moments and feelings are the sum of our parts. These stories, drawn from reality, sometimes embellished, are all wrapped in melody, heartbeat and words that stay with you.
I currently perform regularly at Edmonton International Airport (YEG) as part of their Live Music Program. These performances are for travelers past security, but I include them here to reflect my current schedule.
I’m also listing the songwriting workshops I teach for Jube School attendees, though stay tuned for more workshops open to everyone!
